Our Story

We drew our first breath at Andrew O’Shaughnessy’s kitchen table in Cork, Ireland, though we weren’t Poppulo back then. But the passion, the belief in the power of informed and involved people, was there from the start and inspires everything we do today. It is a passion we live by and it owes a debt to lessons from the past.

It was one of the worst things Andrew O’Shaughnessy had to do and he swore it would never happen again. His father’s company was going out of business and Andrew had to lay off 88 people. Decent, hard-working, honest people.

It was a very difficult time, but Andrew learned a lesson that has burned inside him ever since. The staff were very loyal but unfortunately there was a disconnect between management and employees.

The culture was closed and non-inclusive. Management told the workforce what they wanted done and the employees did what was asked of them – and felt let down when the company founded by Andrew’s great-grandfather in 1905 could not be saved.

Since then, Andrew has been driven by a vision and a passion to create thriving workplace cultures and to radically change how companies engage with their people, in ways very different from the past.

That is how Poppulo was born. From an ambition to make organizations great by releasing the power of their people, through super-smart technology that transforms internal communications, dramatically increasing employee engagement.

That’s why he created Poppulo. It’s all about people.

Great communication is the life blood of high-performing organizations.

Andrew O'Shaughnessy, CEO Poppulo

Our Journey

Before Poppulo we began life as Newsweaver. We started very small, with big ambition. We trebled in size over four years from 2012, opened offices in the USA and grew an extensive customer portfolio of the world’s greatest brands, including AON, Nestlé, Experian, LinkedIn, Honda, and Rolls-Royce.

We made the journey by developing ground-breaking software specifically for internal communicators, enabling unrivaled engagement. As we grew it became a natural step to evolve from Newsweaver to Poppulo – which owes its origin to the Latin for people – placing the core of our purpose at the heart of our identity.

From developing solutions to transform employee engagement, to customized consultancy services and thought leadership, everything we do at Poppulo is driven by our belief that the most successful organizations are made of informed, engaged, and empowered people.

People engaged, power unlocked. It’s what we do. The Poppulo effect, success from within.

Our culture defines us

Poppulo’s ambition to help make organizations great by unlocking the power of their people comes from the heart of our own culture.

It lives and breathes. It shapes our vision and it’s why we always go the extra mile to help customers achieve their goals. It’s a culture of openness and innovation, of honesty and generosity, where hard work is rewarded but life outside work gets the respect it deserves. It’s why we’re a Great Place To Work and this year won a prestigious award for communicating with our own people.
