For more than 17 years, Leo Tang has helped shape how guests experience MGM Macau.

As Senior Resort Technology Architect, Leo has spent his career designing the technology behind some of the resort's most memorable digital experiences. What began as a digital signage refresh with fewer than 60 displays has evolved into an enterprise platform spanning over 900 digital signage endpoints across MGM Macau and MGM Cotai. Today, those screens support far more than communications—they help create immersive experiences that blend digital signage, LED architecture, interactive technology, enterprise integrations, and operational intelligence into a seamless guest journey.

For his technical leadership, innovation, and longstanding partnership with Poppulo, Leo is the latest recipient of the Poppulo Impact Award.

Engineering the Experience

Leo's journey with MGM began in 2008 as an Audio-Visual Technician supporting entertainment venues, hotel operations, LED walls, control systems, and AV infrastructure. It was there that he developed a passion for using technology to improve both guest experiences and operational efficiency.

In 2012, he became involved in MGM Macau's digital signage modernization initiative. At the time, the network consisted of approximately 60 displays. Today, it has grown to over 900 digital signage endpoints serving two integrated resorts, thousands of guests, and dozens of business functions.

For Leo, however, growth was never measured by the number of screens installed.

He measures success by the experiences those screens make possible.

More Than Digital Signage

Ask Leo about digital signage, and he rarely starts by talking about displays.
He talks about experiences.

"For me, it's really important for the guest experience," Leo explained. "I'm not just trying to fulfill the business requirement. I want guests to understand something...to experience something. It's not just signage. It's combining audio, video, lighting, and content together—that’s what creates an experience our guests will remember."

That philosophy is visible throughout both MGM properties in Macau.
Guests are welcomed by spectacular LED installations that transform entire spaces into immersive environments. Exterior façade lighting systems become enormous digital canvases capable of displaying synchronized imagery across the building itself. Interactive wayfinding kiosks help visitors navigate the resorts, while theaters, casinos, restaurants, transportation areas, and entertainment venues all use digital signage to enhance the guest journey.

The result isn't simply a collection of digital signs.
It's a connected experience that begins the moment guests arrive and continues throughout their visit.

Connecting the Resort

Many digital signage programs stop at content management.
Leo's work extends much further.

Over the years, he has developed and integrated a wide range of systems that connect digital signage to the broader resort technology ecosystem. Those projects include interactive eHost kiosks, ServiceNow dashboards, operational monitoring systems, staff dashboards, jackpot displays, casino trend boards, meeting room signage, transportation systems, and custom business applications.

One of the projects he's most proud of is the development of MGM's interactive guest eHost kiosk.

The project took nearly a year to complete because of the number of backend systems that needed to work together.

"It wasn't just building a kiosk," Leo explained. "It had to connect guest information, authentication, PIN services, and many different systems together."

That willingness to connect technologies—and continually expand what digital signage can do—has become one of Leo's defining contributions.

Always Improving

Despite overseeing one of Asia's most sophisticated hospitality signage deployments, Leo believes there's always another opportunity to improve.
Over the course of his career, he has watched the industry evolve from VGA-based displays to HDMI, from LCD screens to massive LED walls, all while evolving to leverage cloud platforms, enterprise integrations, and increasingly intelligent communications systems.

Today, he's focused on expanding cloud capabilities, strengthening integrations, supporting larger-format LED deployments, improving security, and helping business units discover new ways to leverage the platform.
"The technology keeps changing," Leo said. "I keep studying how to improve the system, how to enhance it, and how to make it easier for people to use."

For Leo, that's one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
Every new project presents another opportunity to make the experience better.

Recognizing Lasting Impact

Leo Tang's work has helped redefine how digital signage supports the guest experience across MGM Macau.

Receiving the Poppulo Impact Award gave Leo an opportunity to reflect on that journey.

"I'm very honored to receive this award," he said. "For me, it represents the journey I've had with MGM over the past 17 years. It's been a chance to keep learning, keep improving, and help lead the technology that supports our guests every day."

Reflecting on Leo's contributions, Poppulo CEO Ruth Fornell said:
"When you look at one of Leo's installations, you see beautiful digital signage. When you look across the entire resort, you see something much bigger—a thoughtfully engineered guest experience powered by hundreds of connected digital touchpoints. That ability to connect technology with experience is what makes Leo such a deserving Impact Award recipient."

Congratulations to Leo Tang on this well-deserved recognition as a Poppulo Impact Award winner.
